The Next Step Forward

Dear friends, we are approaching the mid year of 2010. This year has turn out to be a pretty good year for all (I hope). We are seeing an improved economy (despite the Greece crisis) in the region, with better employment, wage increase, more entertainment and leisure venues, malls and more shopping, whee!

At moretopurple, I’m deeply encouraged that we are doing better than we started last year. In the coming months we are looking forward to a few more associates joining us. We are excited about prospects and can’t wait to share with you more. We are also actively reviewing our branding, logo and the overall corporate image. Do share with us your ideas and we hope to make this a part of you as well.

We are also actively looking for partners to work with to share with the less fortunate. Please feel free to drop us an email how we can proceed further.
Today marks the start of GSS (Great Singapore Sale) 2010. I can’t imagine the queues at the cashier. The newspapers predict a 5% increase in turnover from last year’s GSS and retailers are positive with their sales. I wish you all happy shopping.

At moretopurple, fortunately or unfortunately, we will not be joining the GSS bandwagon. We pride ourselves for giving our clients the best values they can get from the investment spend with us. We do not give discount for the fact that we don’t expect our clients to get discounted service. We work hard and seek to exceed our client’s growing expectation of us. And we are glad that all our couples have grown with us and understand where we are coming from and they respect our philosophy in running this demanding business.

We will be launching our revised rates soon. Thus far, we have received numerous enquiries for 2011 and 2012. We are only available for bookings 18 months in advance. So, if you are keen to engage our service, email us, arrange for an appointment if you are comfortable with the rates and keen to find out more of our work. Visit the nice environment at SPECTRA and not forgetting the little garden I have painstakingly been working on over the past 6 months. We will be happy to hear from you.

Winter @ ROME, Bridal 2010

Rome is today the biggest and most populous city of Italy. Rome contains an exceptional artistic patrimony, glorious testimony to its great past. It is here we witness the magnificent history through out all the period of the Roman Empire, Renaissance artists such as Bramante, Raphael, and Michelangelo were at work. Many works of art by the greatest artists of Italy and the world are gathered in the famous museums of the city and of the Vatican.

If you are keen for a Pre-wed shoot in Rome, feel free to drop us an email at contactme@moretopurple.com for a discussion.

When in ROME!

There’s something enchanting in ROME that always makes me feel like going back again espcially so while editing some of the images when I was there last winter. Winter in ROME attracts lots of rainfall. But it was still good walking in the street with the cold winter wind. The little bit of sun in the midst of the rain warms you and makes you wanna hit the street longer.

Niall&Sancy Wedding

It’s my privillege to cover the wedding of Niall and Sancy. Working with familiar faces and wonderful people around makes shooting this wedding a really enjoyable one. It was my first shooting inside Church of the Sacred Heart. When I first step in and saw the number of mixed lightings I was almost at a lost. But I must admit that the lighting was really beautiful and it will be a good challenge for me to nail some great images.

The part that I enjoyed most in this wedding are the speeches. Sancy’s father recounted how Niall called to ask for Sancy’s hand. It was amadzing. And I was already thinking what am I going to share when my daughter gets married. Ok that’s another 20 years down the road.

So here’s some highlights from the wedding:

WPPI 2010 – Awards of Excellence

AE

WPPI Awards of Excellence 16×20 Print Competition is an annual event highly regarded in the international scene. Wedding Masters and legends of wedding photography (Yervant, Jerry Ghonis, Jim garner) are some of the big winners in past competitions. Often regarded as Oscars equivalent of wedding and portrait photography, submissions for this annual competitions came in stronger year after year.

Encouraged by a senior to give this competition a try and to place my work for judging among the best in the industry, I take it as a learning experience and to really see where my work stands. I submitted a total of 5 prints. Running thru 9 pages of the Rules for the competition is no joke. What judges look for? The judges base their scores on a combination of the following qualities: creativity, impact, storytelling, technical excellence, lighting, posing, expression, print quality, and composition.

I received an email this morning and I’m happy to share one of my submission received Accolade of Excellence.

Love by the Window

A902

The rest of the four submissions did equally well and all missed by a point or two to be mentioned in the Accolade of Excellence. Here are the rest of the four:

Cheering Hearts

C091

A Leap of Faith

D555

Pillars of Love

B407

The RED Wedding Shoe

E706

There are many people to thank for this humble beginning. I look forward to WPPI 2011 and will work even harder to make sure all the submissions attain “Honourable Mention”.

Slyvest & Nicole Wedding @ Conrad

From a recent wedding of Slyvest and Nicole. Simply love the expressions from the bride, especially when she got slighly drunk towards the end of the wedding.

Jason & Ripple Wedding Day @ Hotel Intercontinental

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a little bling bling will be cool” thats the theme of Jason and Ripple’s wedding. Had a blast shooting this wedding with awesome and funny company of lovely friends.

Edwin & Janrie Wedding @ KL and Amara Sanctuary

Another awesome wedding that I have the honour to cover for Edwin and Janrie. I covered their wedding in KL and Singapore. The bridal party rockz big time. Lots of love, lots of friendship and not forgetting lots of fun! Here are some favourites:

Work Life @ SPECTRA

Its been 3 months since I started working in my studio @ SPECTRA. I apologise for not updating everyone about life @ SPECTRA. Its a wonderful place to work not just because its close to HOME (within cycling distance, keke), its really close to nature. SPECTRA used to an old fire station located along Upper Bukit Timah Road. People who stayed in the West will know this place well, you cant missed it when travelling along this road to town.

I got myself a small little space (you wont believe what it was before I took this space). It was totally RAW when I took over. Just a roof and 3 walls, no window, no door and just cement flooring. Took me 2 weeks in the midst of crazy wedding season and overseas shoot. I’m happy to share my own little work space @ SPECTRA.

You cant miss my studio the moment you walk in from the entrance. This whole place is characterised by colourful blocks (former accomodation block for the firemen). Mine is situated at the Yellow Block (don’t ask why it is not purple …… ).

It was just patches of grasses when I took over. This garden took me 3 months and $$$$ to do up. Somehow this little garden attracted alot of attention. Some people mistook my place as a landscaping company …. LOL! Perhaps its a good biz opportunity in the future.

10 generations of small little red fish inside the clay bowl and it is not stopping.

I kept a pair of love birds (Mudan) outside my studio. Meet Gugu and Kuku!

Here’s the view from the inside of my studio. Its a small space (less than 200sqft). The walls are painted black leaving the brick textures as it is. The floor tiles are black with textures to match the wall. The far right corner is a expanded 2 seater sofa for my couples to sit (no, I dun sleep there), although it gets quite tempting especially after lunch. A 42″ plasma tv for slideshow viewing. Walls are filled with canvases, fine art prints and accolades.

Here’s the view of the other side. Basically my work space. More wall mounts of my fine art collection.
